W Punta de Mita
W Punta De Mita is located in Mexico - on the Riviera Nayarit, part of the multi-use oceanfront development, Los Veneros, on Mexico’s magnificent Pacific Coast. It is a property in the W Hotels Worldwide portfolio, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
Designed with ASET/AOMA in collaboration with Starwood’s award-winning design team, W Punta De Mita is inspired by the local bohemian surf culture found throughout the area. When designing the property, careful measures were put in place to ensure that the natural surroundings - including the ancient fig trees and natural springs - were not disturbed during construction. Many of these natural features are showcased throughout the hotel’s design including the reuse of spring water in the reflection pools and within the spa.
W Punta De Mita is also steeped in historical, social and spiritual context. Traditional patterns of the Huichol people (indigenous people of Nayarit), images of traditional Mexican celebration, vivid handcrafts with ancient roots and the amalgamation of European and Indigenous cultures are brought to life throughout the hotel’s luxurious and stylish villas, public spaces, and buzzing bars and restaurants.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with an oversized 9-foot Huichol statue, along with a fleet of colorful TukTuks that whisk travelers further into the hotel. A bright blue and green mosaic “Camino Huichol” walkway, stretching close to 460 feet, acts as a path guiding guests through communal areas of the hotel from the entrance through the Living Room and onto the center walkway of the WET deck (the outdoor pool, bar and lounge area), finally jutting out over the beach for that Insta-worthy view of the Pacific Ocean.
W Punta De Mita’s open-air Living Room (W’s answer to the traditional hotel lobby) is centered around a rectangular bar, serving W’s signature cocktails. A locally-made chandelier with nearly 500 hanging LED lights hangs above the space, while beautifully-crafted strands of beads hang around small cocktail tables from which guests can enjoy cocktails while listening to the sounds of the resident DJ.
The hotel offers a selection of 119 stylishly designed guest villas and suites. All villas and suites feature private balconies or patios, artisanal Mexican tiled floors and headboards fashioned from either surfboards or punctured tin by local artists.
Scattered throughout the property are four massive and beautifully designed graffiti installations by street artist Nacho Bernal. Each mural depicts a different take on W Punta de Mita’s surrounding area.
W Punta De Mita offers five distinct dining spaces including: Mesa1, which is privately situated on an island in the middle of a spring-fed lake which accommodates only one seating daily; the on-site specialty restaurant Spice Market Beach, a Pan-Asian oasis with a tropical twist inspired by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s travels; the Chevicheria, which is located on the beach near the WET Deck and serves signature ceviche and craft beers from a converted 1950s Chevrolet 3800 truck; Venazu, the hotel’s casual dining restaurant which is open all day serving traditional Mexican cuisine and is designed with locally sourced materials from the colorful upholstery to the brightly painted, refurbished Mexican baking shelves reused as partitions and the Living Room.
The design of the 4,000 square foot AWAY Spa continues the altar motif from the Living Room with a hanging chandelier of flowers in the colors of a Mexican sunset, alongside a beauty bar with stations for manicures, pedicures, waxing, blow outs and more. The deck features intricate cutouts in the wood to accommodate for the roots of surrounding fig trees, which great care was taken not to disturb when building the spa.
Other offerings include W Punta De Mita’s Wave Surf Shop featuring endless options of non-motorized watersports, the brand’s signature FIT® state-of-the-art fitness facility and three unique meeting and event spaces boast nearly 2,600 square feet, perfect for cocktail receptions, board meetings, intimate celebrations and weddings.
The hotel opened for guests in June 2016.
